Open Letter
Summer 2011
Hello Steamboat Family!
Steamboat has a rich history of being a place for healing that people used to travel to from all around the world to find assistance in their healing process. Dr. Edna Carver, who operated Steamboat until the 1950s, was one of the pioneers and leading doctors in holistic, alternative healing methods that incorporated body, mind, and soul. Today, our team of doctors, researchers and therapists in the fields of natural healing and light, color, and sound therapies is working to lead the way into the future of health and wellness.
For Steamboat to embody its rich history and become a leading center for healing, education, innovation, and eco-friendly sustainable operations, we need to work on some much-needed repairs and upgrades. If you have visited us lately, you may have noticed a lot of changes have happened already this year.
What has already happened:
• Our reception area has gotten a facelift: We replaced the carpet, repaired one of the main hot water pipes that feeds the tub rooms, replaced a wall, and painted the entire lobby;
• Ambiance upgrades of massage rooms and hallways have also been undertaken;
• The first round of upgrades to our web site (www.steamboatsprings.org) and the creation of Facebook (www.facebook.com/steamboat.hot.springs) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/steamboaths) pages have been completed;
• New marketing strategies are being implemented, including new advertisement designs including our new tag line: “It’s All In The Water.”
Now, we’d like to share plans for the immediate future. The following are the projects on the table:
• Repair and Replace outdoor tub and surrounding areas
• Repair classroom: new skylight, new floors, repaint ceiling and walls, replace windows and doors, upgrade entrance, extend classroom with outdoor arboretum/solarium
• Repair steam room
• Remodel Chapel Sanctuary and provide a place for quiet post-therapy relaxation
• Repair geothermal pipes throughout the spa
• Put signage on the main entrance, as well as directional signage on the roads to make it easier for our guests to find us
• Improve the light and sound features in the tub rooms
• Replace tub room window frames to compliment our beautiful and original stained glass windows
• Repaint all massage rooms and tub rooms
• Repaint the outside of Spa building and surrounding structures
• Replace roof on main building
• Begin round two of upgrades to our web site
• Engage in more robust marketing/advertising strategies including major social media campaigns
These upgrades and improvements will be done as funds allow, but at the present moment we are in the difficult situation of finding our outdoor tub broken and needing to be replaced. We must also replace the floor in the classroom right away.
The outdoor tub is our main attraction in the summer time, which is always a slow time anyway. All our plans to inspire our guests with attractive summer events and specials depend on our outdoor tub’s being operational as well as our classroom being available for summer and fall classes and other programs (not to mention our upcoming 15th Anniversary Open House, Health Fair and Expo on September 10). So, it is imperative to fix the tub and classroom immediately.
This situation forces us to turn to you today to ask for help with your monetary donations for these two projects so we can keep Steamboat alive and our doors open. Any amount you can offer will be greatly appreciated and applied to our immediate repair needs. We have included an easy-to-use donation form which you can mail or fax to us. You may also call us directly at (775) 853-0811 or e-mail me at info@steamboatsprings.org. Alternatively, you can make your donation online. Your donation will be fully tax deductible.
Due to the urgency of the situation, we are asking that you send your donation as soon as possible within the next seven to ten days.
And please know that although we need cash primarily, you can further help by donating supplies and materials or even by coming by and using our beautiful facilities more often, especially during the summer months. Remember, a cool tub of our magical waters can be as refreshing, invigorating, and healing as a hot tub in cooler months!
We hope you will help Steamboat remain an oasis for healing and community for many generations to come. We want to thank you from our hearts, and we look forward to welcoming you soon again to this magical “Steamboat in the desert.”
Sincerely,
Your Team at Steamboat
