Healing Therapies
At Steamboat Hot Springs we are dedicated to providing natural therapies to promote good health. At the core of all of our therapies is our excellent natural hot springs water. To this we add a variety of natural treatments to promote healing and maintenance of good health.
The field of hydrotherapy was pioneered by Brother Sebastian Kneipp (1821-1897) in Bavaria, who healed himself of tuberculosis and went on become one of the founders of Naturopathy. He developed a number of treatments based on the use of natural hot springs water. As a result of this influence, along with others, the importance of hydrotherapy is more recognized in Europe than in the United States. Until quite recently, use of hot springs water was covered in German insurance plans because their research showed that people who use hot springs regularly have fewer health problems than those who do not.
Our research has shown that several of the fundamental causes of health problems are addressed by the natural therapies offered at Steamboat. These causes are:
- Imbalances in the Nervous System
- Imbalances in the Circulatory System
- Stress, Overtaxation and Overexertion
There is a tendency to think of hydrotherapy and massage as addressing only the third item on this list, forgetting that it also assists with the removal of toxins and stimulates both the nervous system and the circulatory system. Our Mud Body Mask is a very powerful mineral detox and has been shown to assist with conditions such as heavy metal toxicity.
Color therapy, which is built into our individual tub rooms, helps balance the entire system. Our acoustic therapy (cymatherapy and Sonatherapy)can be used to assist with a wide variety of health conditions, from back pain and sprains to scar tissue. We are one of the pioneering sites in this country to use acoustic therapy, which has been long-established in England and Japan.
