Ayurveda is an ancient Indian holistic healing system that dates far back to about 5,000 years ago. While many still practice this system of healing in India, it is gaining wide popularity all around the world today. But what is Ayurveda, exactly?

The Science of Nature

It is a scientifically-based medicine and is sought out by physicians and scientists. It has gained their interests in their search for how all-natural healing can be integrated with western medicine. Ayurveda is gentle, safe, effective. It can be beneficial paired with a well-devised plan that takes into consideration the body, mind and spiritual components. We have all heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” But in Ayurveda, it is, “You are what you digest.”

Exploring the Dosha

The premise of Ayurveda is about knowing what “dosha” you are predominant in. Everyone falls into the category of one or more of the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha). In Sanskrit, dosha means “flawed,” or “fault,” and is the governing energy of oneself. By knowing one’s dosha, we can then use Ayurvedic principles to acquire balance and rejuvenate the body and mind.
